Town History
Settled in 1762 by Captain William Edmondson and named for his late wife Anna Edmondson, Cape Anna has remained relatively unchanged by time. Following the Revolutionary War, Cape Anna was transformed from a sleepy seaside fishing village into one of the largest producers of blueberries, which are shipped and sold around the world.
In 1840 Mary Amano invented blueberry chili, a hearty dish featuring Cape Anna’s pride and joy. Since that fateful day, blueberry chili has become a staple for the area. Want to make it for yourself? Check out the original recipe here.
Throughout its history Cape Anna has played host to many fascinating events in history. One such event was the 1910 visit by US President William Howard Taft, who boarded the incorrect train and spent almost a entire ten minutes in Cape Anna!
Today Cape Anna is a beautiful seaside retreat where you can unplug from the world and relax.
“Cape Anna is a truly hidden gem with a wonderful community, making it a wonderful place to live and work. We hope you visit us soon!” - Chris Horton, Mayor of Cape Anna.
